Coffee

I don't think I have a first memory of drinking coffee but I'm pretty sure I was between 10 and 12 years old. My mom would let us take the little bit (like 2 tablespoons little bit) left over in the coffee pot and add it to some warm milk in the morning so that we could drink our 'coffee' with her. In high school we were challenged to give up something we feel we can't go without and I went an entire two weeks without coffee. Thankfully I was never that stupid again.

Its been fun to grow in my understanding and taste for coffee as the third wave coffee movement has also grown. I am one hundred percent a novice in my palate but I am enjoying developing my taste and trying new roasts.

I recently received my first box of coffee from Bean Bros, a monthly coffee subscription box that sources from nordic and european roasters. I could not be more happy with the beautiful Burundi from Lippe I received as my first bag! The sweet earthy flavors are so refreshing and smooth.

I use a Kalita wave to brew at home and typically brew a 1:16 ratio with 24g of ground coffee and 380g at the end of my 3min pour. Stumtown has a great step by step brewing if you're interested in learning how to brew with the Kalita wave!

My forever favorite aspect of coffee is the ability for it to foster so many different environments and adapt to what I need it to be. I enjoy brewing at home for the ability to slow down and become intentional with my time. The ability to sit outside and sip my coffee while watching birds and bees fly around my back yard. Coffee fuels my nights at work and allows me to be focused and energized. It has also brought about a beautiful community through events, latte art competitions, and bar conversations with fellow coffee lovers.
